trees that fell like dominoes More trees down this morning which means 5 separate events have brought trees down from our neighbour’s scrub onto our chestnut orchard. The trees fell like dominos down the hill mostly roots and all falling on other trees creating a cascade of stringy barks piling on top of each other, spilling out and coming to rest into our orchard and some as far as the valley raspberries. more trees to clean up The weather has certainly been challenging with unusually strong winds and rain. This has come after 10 years of below average rainfall which saw our valley and springs dry up earlier this year for the first time in our 33 years here. Our Spring in March this year It was just mud In the last 48hours we have had another 39mm of rain and it’s still falling. It takes many seasons to perfect your own planting guide to suit your unique garden conditions. Over the years I have accumulated a large collection of notebooks, computer notes and more importantly ‘neck top’ info to call on but there are many ways to make it a simple part of life. When the tags are no longer needed I’d put them in a box – with the idea of reusing them …but.. There are so many to go through I never bothered, just made new ones. Within 15 minutes of the idea I had fashioned together a system of pockets on my trusty sewing machine. (Actually most of the time was removing the junk from the sewing table) I now have 12 pockets so all I need to do is put back the tags in their months as indicated on the tag. As plants success...

A very succesful share occured at Nirvana Farm last Saturday. The initiative came as a way of Nirvana Organic Farm celebrating 30 years of growing bio-dynamically and living a lifestyle in tune with nature and sharing  knowledge to the wider south Australian community. What a hoot! 19 mostly very local households contributed and shared their excess produce in an amazing gesture of generosity. The range of produce was impressive from the initial response of...” oh, I’ve only got lemons “, to what overwhelmed the table capacity and the need to fetch another. Some of the produce included avocadoes, lettuce, carrots, fennel, broad beans, silverbeet, rhubarb, mustard greens ,kaffir lime leaves, lots of herbs, green tomato chutney, biscuits, brownies, preserved lemons, seville oranges, tangelos and of course lots of lemons. Perhaps next time everyone will want lemons to make Nirvana’s lemonade! But there were more goodies that required a third table. These were plants, including strawbe...
